Right to Vote

Role: UX/UI Designer

August 2023 - June 2024

A Decentralized Voting System

Voters are no longer going to the voting stations to cast their vote.

Voters have been decreasing from election year to election year, as they are busy with their professional work and cannot come to the home station to cast their vote.

"How might we get an Online Voting System, which helps the voter to cast their vote using a decentralized app using the blockchain.

Personal Journey

I am an international student. Around August 2023, I shifted to the United States of America. I was studying a quite interesting course at my college, which is Blockchain Technology. I was very interested, and randomly, I was doing my project chosen in Voting System using a Decentralized application.

As quite strange, I was not able to cast my vote in my home country. I cannot go back and cast my vote, as it was more expensive for me. I wondered why not the voting system has been designed and developed for the voter who not able to cast or can cast their votes from their own space.

Surprisingly, the voting has been recored that year was averagely was close to 65-68%. Not in my own country in the United States has been only recording of 63-67%. Why?

We came up with the solution for the voting system and designed and developed a design for the campus voting system for the presidential voting. So we can test it in the real world in a large scale, and also they can protect the vote by casting in the decentralized application which cannot tamper and cast others votes in the system.

UX Research and Designs

We are a team of four. Throughout the project, I have been driven through the research process. It was not my best. I was not known with the basics and foundational knowledge of the design, but I made my best of it at the time.

User Personas

In the process of the research, I have met personally and drawn some Empathy Maps, which led to drawing the user personas, which highlight the user story and user journey to get an idea of the problem statement in the voting system.

User Surveys and Interviews

Everything in the world is making iterations and enhancing their systems, except one thing voting system has been stepped back to the development. We have drawn some of the better can be made using the design for the system that has power to make change.

Surveys takeways - Problem Statement

During the analysis, we got to know that most of the people has been interested to take their vote but could not able to cast their vote by travelling to their home country which was expensive and time taking process as well.

Mostly users are in a need of the online voting system and new to each and every one, as they can be at their work and cast the vote for the best person as per the user perspecitve.

Each other needs an app that has been approved by the government and a system to trust the application and go through the process. Which might be hard, so we are going to design a basic part of it for a university. So they can try to analyze the issues in the low level. We can also gain the confidence in the larger audiences.

Usability Testing

By using rapid sketching, I have been able to create a digital wireframe and low-fidelity prototypes.

Now it's time for the testing in real-time by using the structure and some of the prompts for the journey of the user's needs under consideration. We have done the moderated usability testing in person, and drawn some important observations over the user experience in the app designs.

Prompt 1: Navigate through the app and try to cast the vote in the app.

Prompt 2: Find the results section in the app try to find the results.

Prompt3: Try to know the upcoming events in the app during the journey.

By using Affinity Mapping, in the process we analysis and got to track down some issues. We got to know that the app need to be more intitute and more informative, users can cast the vote easily but need more information about the candidates so we can get a idea of the participants and track the best of the outcomes.

User Interface Designs

The right to vote might be the start of the voting system. But need a more impressive update. I have learned that users need to be in most preference and make the designs.

Right to vote is an app that can solve the casting vote online and without any tampering with the results, as we used to do in a decentralized system.

According to customer requirements, we can modify certain aspects of the design and include the names and details of the participants. Additionally, we track voter registration and the proportion of people who vote each year, as well as conduct additional analysis and forecasting of elections.

Registration for vote using Blockchain

In order to access the system's vote cast, we must first add the new voter and use the public key to add them to the database. In exchange for the vote ballot, you would receive a private key that must match the public key. The vote becomes subsequently accessible to cast on the day of the polling.
